The Opportunity Foundation has a mission to provide leadership and resources to build generations of young African Americans prepared to manage the challenges and responsibilities of the future.  The focus is on mentoring, leadership and college scholarships.  It is 501(c)(3) charitable organization which raises funds to support programs and initiatives to help students become competitive in their academic and career pursuits.  A major initiative is the “Education Demonstration Project” in which The Opportunity Foundation partners with city schools to demonstrate to students the benefits of education, academic excellence, positive behavior and the pursuits of meaningful goals.  Since January 2015, The Opportunity Foundation has awarded more than $150,000.00 in college scholarships to 56 recipients.  It also provides mentorship and guidance to its scholars and follows their career development.  A minimum of four $2,500.00 scholarships are awarded each year.  The scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, extra-curricular/community involvement, leadership/team skills, financial need, honors, written communication skills, essays and letters of recommendations.

CARVER FOUNDATION OF NORWALK PARTNERSHIP

Take a look at the partnership we developed with the Carver Foundation of Norwalk to mentor young men. In September 2019 we began monthly engagement sessions that leveraged our Education Demonstration Project (EDP) - a program that allows our members and guest speakers to demonstrate the benefit of education, academic excellence, discipline, and the pursuit of meaningful goals. The mission of the Carver Foundation of Norwalk “to close opportunity gaps for all children and to ensure they graduate high school on time college- and career-ready” perfectly aligns to the goals of The Opportunity Foundation.

Take a look at the partnership we developed with the Stamford Family YMCA to mentor young high school boys. In February 2015 we launched the Education Demonstration Project (EDP) - a program that allows our members and guest speakers to demonstrate the benefit of education, academic excellence, discipline, and the pursuit of meaningful goals.
